College inducts 7 Hall of Fame

(16 October 2010) The celebration of Illinois State University Homecoming 90th, the College of Education held an induction ceremony for the 16° gruppo of alumni Hall of Fame honorees. Dean Deborah Curtis welcomed a group of students, faculty, Emeritus Faculty, staff and friends of the College for the ceremony. He then introduced the 17TH President of Illinois State University, Dr. The Bowman.

Bowman congratulated and welcomed the award and said that he was impressed when reading their biographies. "For those of us who have been toiling in the trenches as faculty and staff, it is deeply gratifying to see what you did with your professional career," he noted.

Despite financial struggles in the State of Illinois, Bowman said he was confident that Illinois State University is an institution strong and safe. "I think the history of our campus is one of transformation and progress. The College [education] is a good example of what can happen in a campus when faculty, staff and students work hard and achieve great things. "

Bowman pointed out some important benchmarks that are reached by Illinois State University and the College of Education. Among these, the College of Education is ranked among the top 100 in the U.s. News and World Report. The University was classified as a public University Kiplinger top 100 for six consecutive years.

"We have been boasting an awful lot about the quality of the student body, and certainly we have seen a change in the percentage of students who graduate in the top ten percent of their high school classes coming to Illinois — that number is going up every year. Now we are one of the most selective public University in the State. "And we actually higher admission standards than half of schools in the Big Ten, he explained.

Bowman is confident that Illinois State University, as it is moving in a direction very promising with a bright future ahead. The College of Education, Bowman said he "couldn't be happier with what's happening in this College".

In 1857, Illinois State Normal University began with the purpose of training teachers for the schools of Illinois. The University started with education as its goal, and over 153 years later, teacher preparation programs and administrator are vital and progressive as they have always been. The College of Education has nearly 38,000 living alumni, and nearly 24,000 graduates are currently teaching in classrooms nationwide, making Illinois was one of the greatest teacher of the editors in the nation. Currently, one in eight teachers in Illinois is a graduate of ISU. The College of Education is very proud of the many contributions in the field of education by alumni.

Dean Curtis introduced the honorees, Cathy Flannery, Patti Hodges, Keith Jepsen, Ngozi Onuora, Deanna Perkins, Linda Tomlinson and Sharon Weiss. "Today, a new group of seven is recognized for their contributions and achievements in the field of education. These individuals honored have served the community education in many roles throughout their career. "

Each of the honorees received a commemorative plaque, and had his name inscribed on a plaque College of Education Hall of Fame opens in College for perpetuity. After breakfast, the alumni to the hospitality tent of the College of Education at the parade, to join with colleagues Redbirds and to enjoy the sunny day celebrations.
