NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Republican Gov. Bill Haslam on Friday joined President Barack Obama for a White House announcement that states will be given more freedom to opt out of key parts of the federal No Child Left Behind law.

Haslam in his introduction of the Democratic president said the most informed education decisions are made at the state and local levels and that Tennessee has made significant strides toward improving standards.
