Lynn named to 2010 Kohl McCormick early teaching Awards

(12 February 2010) College education alum Shannon Lynn was nominated for the Kohl McCormick early 2010 teaching Awards, an award presented for only the finest educators of Chicago metropolitan who work with children 3-8 years.

Lynn is one of seven finalists for the award, which is designed for educators who are dedicated to leadership, innovation and professional development in the classroom, as well as respect for children and their families.

Lynn graduated from Illinois State University in 2000 with a degree in Curriculum and instruction. Currently teaches third grade to Sabin Magnet School in Wicker Park.

Three recipients will be selected among the seven finalists this April. These recipients will be honored with a dinner ceremony at the Westin Chicago River North Tuesday 8 June.

The selection process began last fall, when a Committee of leaders in the field of early childhood education appointed 12 outstanding teachers for this award. Fellows of the Kohl McCormick Academy of outstanding educators has collaborated with other leaders in the field to conduct site visits on these candidates, selecting seven as finalists.

Although there are several awards in the United States, teaching the Kohl McCormick Early Childhood teaching Awards is the first awards program to recognize formally the contributions of teachers working with children from infancy through third grade. In its 15th year, the Kohl McCormick awards program has set the standard for recognition of outstanding early childhood educators.
