(12 October 2010) Several members of the Illinois State University Student education attended the National Conference of Education Student Association this summer in New Orleans, La., where they participated in training, workshops and regional caucus meetings. During the Conference, the National Education Association presented the chapter Illinois State with local excellence with more than 200 outstanding Member Award for the fourth consecutive year.
The ISU Student Education Association has over 300 members with 12 active members in the Executive Committee and many opportunities to be active in an Advisory Committee and subcommittees.
The National Education Association is the largest Union in the United States with about 3.2 million active members. This organization is widely recognized in school districts throughout the country. "Our members are able to put their curriculum that were a part of this organization as a student, and it is something that makes them stand out in the application process," said the President Becca Suerth.
Students who enroll also earn dual membership in the Illinois Education Association, which supports members in their quest to become educators. The Illinois Education Association provides members with the opportunity to participate in professional development conferences throughout the school year, the opportunity to be paired with a retired teacher who serves as a mentor and the movement of senior member resumes for all school districts in Illinois.
SEA members participate in a variety of activities throughout the year, including volunteer work and fundraising. Have committed themselves politically to stay up-to-date with educational reforms of the Government.
"We are constantly striving to be better," says Suerth. Each year, the sea shall apply for a grant through the National Education Association of pay it forward in the community. Last year they were awarded a grant for $ 1,000 to redo a room in the boys and girls Club of Bloomington. This year they received $ 750 to complete the project at the Boys and Girls Club.
